Buying Leather Furniture
September 19th, 2007 by undrgrndLeather furniture gives a stylish and fashionable look, may it be your home or even your office. Leather furniture has recently become a lot cheaper than it used to be before. It has come within the budget of many middle class people now. But one should have a little knowledge about leather before going to buy it.
The first important thing about any kind of leather is its grade. The better the grade of the leather, the longer lasting it would be and obviously the more expensive it would be. There are two main types of leather, the top grain, which is graded better than split grain. Top grain is more durable. Top grain leather can further be processed into aniline leather, which makes it better coated and stronger. Split grain is normally processed to pigmented leather, which is a little weaker.
As for any other material, the value of leather increases with the better quality of finishing. In case of aniline leather, the finishing gives a very natural leather look, which increases the cost of the product. There is a simple rule, the better the finishing, the better the look, and hence the higher the price.
The texture of leather also counts for its value. In top grain, we have a softer material whereas the pigmented one has a rough surface. There are many different type of textures found on different type of leathers. Like we find a dual color marbled look in sauvage leather, and there is another example of distinct texture in Pull-up leather, which is actually aniline with a touch of oil and wax.
If you have kids at home, make sure you buy top grain, because if your kids start jumping on the furniture, it can easily rip the material if it is not strong enough. And whatever leather you have, keep the sharp things away from it, as even top grain can not be saved from being sliced by a knife.
So when you go out to buy your furniture, keep these things in mind, and let the shop owners know that you have some knowledge about leather. Compare the prices of all the shops for a certain product and then buy it. Ask the shop keeper to take the responsibility of delivering you the furniture, and then pay later as sometimes leather furniture gets damaged in the delivery trucks.
